Description

Ennara approached the throne with her slow pace, her forthcoming accompanied by the knocking sound of her gnarled cane upon the marble floor of the halls of Queen Ellestra. Sound clearly audible in the ominous silence that, as always, met her coming into the throne room.

Once in front of the throne, she bowed her head as a sign of respect. Most of the other inhabitants of the palace would've kneeled in front of their queen, but Ennara had been exempted from this a long time ago, not as much in consideration of her age, that was venerable at 94 years, but rather as a privilege for the highly respected position of royal seer, in which she served for over sixty of said years.

Ellestra leaned slightly forward on her throne, letting the light from the huge candelabra hanging above the hall caress her delicate features.

"You wanted to see us, Ennara?"

The royal seer raised her head again, appointing a gaze clouded by the cataract on the queen. Her gaze had the power to make Ellestra uneasy, not only because she knew that the older woman's gaze, almost blind in the realms of mortals, could still see much more then she could ever dream, but also because seeing her was a constant reminder to the vain ruler of the effect Father Time would eventually bring upon her... how long could time be stopped?

"Yes, my queen. I bring forth news from the oracle of Abaltha. The oracle spoke yesterday to the hero Ramshar DemonSlayer" - whispered the ancient enchantress. A whisper that, in the huge silent hall, echoed like a shout. One or two of the armor-clad guards flanking the room shifted on their feets nervously at the words of the seer, but the queen was calm and in control.

"Tell me of this prophecy then, Ennara."

Ennara coughed, took a deep breath and looked as if curving herself even more on her cane, if at all possible. Ellestra strongly suspected the seer had developed quite a sense of drama in addition to her powers of clayrvoyant, but stood silent covering the hint of a smile with her hand.

"Long and far the oracle searched for a hero of the caliber of Ramshar, whose name is a bane upon the lips of demons and their like, to warn him of a terrible danger to the united realms of humans, elves and orcs alike."

The voice of the enchantress had been slowly dropping in volume, drawing the crowd to focus more upon her in order to understand her words, and left them hanging from her dried lips when she stopped gazing at the floor, as if weighed by a great burden.

"MoonMaw!" - Almost shouted the old woman, straightnening her back to gain a few inches of height. To the enchanted crowd, those few inches looked like many feets and the whizened seer looked like a giantess from old, leading many to step back in surprise, much to her own satisfaction.

"MoonMaw, yes... the mountains of ice, on the border from the dark land of Carallak, where the horde of the demons has been first imprisoned and then sealed forever. But the seal hold still and so it will do forever, for he was cast with the will and the blood of fifty saint men, the fifty martyrs of Lemasil."

"No!" - said the seer raising her voice again - "The danger lies deep within the mountain themselves, for deep under the stone and the ice, a few demons found refuge when the horde was defeated, and were left alone by king Vanire, who reputed them harmless, as they in fact were."

"But fool was the thought of the king! For they were fertile as demons are! With time they surfaced again, and kidnapped womens from the wild tribes in the near forest, and brought them back to the cold darkness of the cave, where a whole new breed could thrive. And grow."

"Demonkins!" muttered the seer while slowly turning her twisted staff toward the listening crowd, as if challenging them to contradict her words.

"They Grew in number and grew in strength, unnoticed by civilized lands, until someone of fierce will could unite them to walk again toward the lands of mortals. And one such being, a mighty creature named El'Esh'Tar, horrible to behold and knowledgeable of the magic of old, has finally taken this role ten years ago. With a strong hand and an even stronger mind to control them, the demonkins are now gathering in the galleries under the mountains, sharpening their weapons and readying themselves for the incoming invasion, their army so strong that even all the mortals realms united would be no match for them."

"But one hope still remain... for their greatest strength is also their greatest weakness... should their leader be killed, the horde will surely crumble as the savage and disorganized nature of the foul creatures would take control."

After a moment of silence on the part of the old enchantress, the queen realized she had said anything and nodded greviously before speaking "I entrust a valiant hero such as Ramshar would not refuse to take the fate of humankind upon himself?"

"He's on his way already, your highness."

The queen nodded again before standing up, her long curved horns nearly touching the ceiling of the great hall, huge wings spreading and casting their shadow over the crowded hall. She stepped forward announced by the sounds of her hooves hitting the floor.

"Humans are so stupid!" - she said with a wicked smile - "Zelhak!"

A gaunt figure looking straight out of a nightmare stepped from the shadows, his nose and upper lip ripped from his face during an early skirmish for the title of master executioner, leaving exposed bones and sharp teeths below. He bowed in front of her queen, the single twisted horn in the middle of his forehead nearly touching the ground. "yes, my lady" said with his rasping voice.

"Let the hunt begin."

The long tail of Zelhak, black and shiny like an eel, whipped the air in anticipation, while the light of the torches drew labyrinths of shadows upon the crimson scales of the behemots behind him. "You can prepare tha altar, for i will bring back the head of the murderer before the next moon, my lady", said the executioner not without a hint of cruel satisfaction before standing.

As he and his band of colossals thugs were leaving the hall, queen Ellestra led her attention to the royal seer again. "My congratulation to the oracle of Abaltha. Her... your prophecies are getting more and more interesting indeed."

With a satisfied smile showing rows upon rows of rotting and pointy teeths, the enchantress bowed her head and replied - "I aim to serve my queen"

With a nod of her horned head, Ellestra was about to let her leave when a thought came to her mind. "Oh, Ennara.."

"Yes, your highness?"

El'Esh'Tar, of the true heritage of Tar'Na'Yk, also known as queen Ellestra to her half-humans servants, raised an eyebrow at the puzzled seer. "... horrible to behold, Ennara?"

With a mischievous smile, the older demon replied "A mere poetic license, your highness... after all, we want to attract warriors, not romantic kids in love!"

Her crowlike laughter was soon joined by the thunderous one of the Queen Under the Ice.
